Ev Wheelhouse

Ev Wheelhouse

I am Ev Wheelhouse, the Title I Director and Title I Math teacher in the Highmore-Harrold School District. I grew up in Schiller Park, Illinois which is a suburb of Chicago.  I graduated from East Leyden High School in 1971 and Dakota Wesleyan University in 1975 with a degree in elementary education.  My husband DeWayne, and I have 2 grown daughters 2 son-in laws and 2 step-grandaughters. We are expecting a grandson in November.  I have been teaching at the Highmore-Harrold Schools for 40 years. My first 15 years were spent teaching country school. Since then I have worked in the Title I program.

 My Philosophy
I believe that children learn through doing hands on learning. Each child is accepted as an individual with unique requirement and potential. Students learn when their process is acknowledged and where mistakes are recognized as part of the learning process. Children are not compared to others and are encouraged to reach their own potential. Developing the love of learning builds a commitment and passion for continued life-long learning.

Classroom Expectations
My classroom expectations are very simple. Students will come to class prepared to learn. Students will show respect toward everyone in the classroom. Everyone will work together during the class. There is such thing as a "dumb" question.
