District FCCLA

Thursday, January 14, 2016

The District VII Meeting of the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America was held in Huron at the Crossroads Hotel and Convention Center on February 13, 2016. Students from the Iroquois, Faulkton, Highmore, Hitchcock-Tulare, Miller, Redfield, and Sully Buttes were present at the meeting to partake in the day’s events.

The purpose of the district meeting was to compete on the district level and elect a new district executive council for the 2016-17 school year. Many students competed in the Illustrated Talk, Career Investigation & Job Interview STAR Events.  STAR stands for Students Taking Action with Recognition. The students who received a superior on these events then moved on to the state competition which will take place April 22 through 24 of 2007 in Sioux Falls. Students from the Highmore Chapter who advanced on to state include: Kimberly Moser, Kassie Hale & Jacob Moser in Illustrated Talk and Makayla Kroeplin and Autumn Reed in Sr. Career Investigation.

Students also attended workshops that were created by the peer State Leadership Teams. These three teams, the outreach, current trends, and advocacy teams, help to educate FCCLA’s members about the importance of involvement in family and community life, and how to better prepare for their future careers. These teams also complete community service projects during the year.  Our own Riley Aasby is a member of the National Outreach State Leadership Team, chosen last year at the state meeting.

Outgoing district officers from Highmore include Kaitlyn Hague, Chairperson and State Officer and Madison Bollweg, Junior High Representative. Candidates for the 2016-17 officer team were required to complete a test, give a speech on the district theme “How has FCCLA empowered you to find your voice?”, answer on stage questions, and complete an application. The top scorer out of the senior high candidates becomes the district chairperson and a member of the 2016-17 State Executive Council. The top junior high member becomes the new junior high representative. After a day of competing; Shantay Werdel from Highmore was chosen as the District VII Co-Chairperson and Emily Semmler from Highmore as the Junior High Representative. These girls will be in charge of planning and putting on the 2017 District VII Meeting.

Cheyenne Carroll and Drew Kroeplin served as Highmore’s time and door keeper.  Kaitlyn Hague served in the role of President and Riley Aasby was our voting delegate.  Many of Highmore’s members were recognized for completing Step One and Power of One.  Halle Kroeplin won a drawing for a Fitbit for attending workshops.  Our Quiz Bowl Team gave a valiant effort and included Kimberly Moser, Denver Henry, Desi Moser, Elora Domke, and Alia Converse.  A huge thank you goes to chaperones Brittany Kerr, Kelly Hague, Jennifer Semmler, and Shannon Moser! Adviser Mrs. Alana Kroeplin is very proud of all members attending and competing at the meeting.   Highmore FCCLA represented our community very well.
